Outpatient Musculo-skeletal Services

Service Description
Provide a physiotherapy service of assessment, advice and treatment of all Musculo-skeletal conditions at Wembley Centre for Health & Care; Willesden Community Hospital and Outpatient Musculo-skeletal also include physiotherapy provision at outreach clinics at Kilburn Square Medical Centre, Chalkhill Medical Centre and Gladstone Medical Centre

Referral Criteria
• Patients from Brent PCT general practitioners and agreed contracts outside Brent PCT
• Able to come to the department or reach Clinic
• Referral should be by a consultant or General Practitioner
• Re-referrals for those who had physiotherapy with no beneficial outcome for the same condition are not accepted

Referral Process
• All referrals should be sent to Single Point of Access
• Senior staff prioritise all referrals as acute, sub acute or routine depending on need and duration of condition
• Routine & sub acute referral appointments are made by ‘Hotel Booking’ where a letter is sent inviting patients to call to make an appointment.
• Acute referrals are booked as soon as possible by phone or first class post (where that patient does not have a contact phone number)

Service Standard
• To offer the choice of treatment location
• Acute referrals are offered an appointment within 10 working days
• Sub acute referrals are offered an appointment within 6 weeks
• Routine referrals are offered an appointment within 12 weeks NB provided staffing levels are maintained to meet the demand
• To offer a choice of appointment time within working hours
• To offer preferred gender of professional for assessment where appropriate, e.g. for religious or cultural needs
